Please note that the multiple components are only available to customers subscribing to the Advanced or Enterprise plans on the Aidi platform.
A project component is a distinct segment within a project. By default, each project contains one component, and you can add as many as you need. To view and add components, access the project list from the Initialize menu. Select the project and open the project Details page. Then go to the Components section.
When to use multiple components?
The component is used to separate different sections, phases or financial entities within the same project.
Multiple components are therefore used:
- When the phases are very distinct, with separate budgets and financing.
- When you want to isolate costs from the rest of the construction.
Tip to help you decide whether it’s a good idea to have multiple components:
- A change order can only involve one component. Are you likely to find yourself in a situation where a change order involves several components?
- If so, component-based management may not be ideal for this project.
Some examples of components:
- Pre-project/preliminary analyses: may include soil studies, feasibility studies, etc., which are financed separately from construction.
- Professional services: plans and specifications, supervision during construction, etc.
- Construction work: generally contains the contractor’s bid schedule.
- Architectural competition: this is usually budgeted separately.
Be careful before creating several components, as this can make the project follow-up more complex.
You can still manage a project on a single component basis, while having a budget broken down by budget items. For example, you can manage professional services and construction costs in the same budget - you don’t need 2 components for that.
Generally speaking, the majority of projects managed in Aidi have a single component for simpler management.
If in doubt, don’t hesitate to discuss the matter with your Aidi contact so that you can make the right decision from the start.
